In my current profession as a teacher aide it is easy to lose your passion and sparkle for the job. When you are aiding with students who have behavioural and intellectual issues diagnosed or not the sparkle dims, the passion dwindles and some days you ask yourself “what am l doing here?” “l am not even making a difference”. You may work in a completely different industry to that of me but l am sure some of you have had those thoughts before. In this day in age of companies downsizing, taking businesses offshore or even due government funding depicts the amount of hours you can work within your company. My job heavily relies one student numbers and government funding, this year due to a severe decline in numbers mean less funding which in turn means less hours. It is easy to get discouraged about ones job when this happens. You are probably sitting there reading this and saying ” well positiveshores go find another job” not as easy as that, living in the economic climate in my town is crazy, l applied for a job only to be told (by seek ) that 187 others had applied for the same job.
When l say sparkle l don’t mean the handheld fireworks, l mean the metaphoric sparkle,
the one you feel inside, that first day at a new job. That mixture excitement and nerves. That dream you have always had, that sets your soul on fire. The reason you bound out of bed in the morning, the ‘l can’t wait to get to work’ feeling.
How you gain back your sparkle or passion for your job? Do you move on? Do you stay? Is there external circumstances as to why you a loosing your sparkle?
To help gain back the sparkle remind yourself why you started, what was the initial spark that got you interested? Write down your initial spark for your passion. Does it still resonate today? Do you have that same spark, has it evolved? For me it was helping kids and finding their way, seeing their little minds blown when they discover/learn something new. I got my foot in the door to aiding through my volunteer youth mentoring, and l was studying a diploma (that l did not finish) that required 100 hours of on the job training or placement. that was 2 years ago. I beleive sparks and passions evolve over time as we dicover different paths.
Do you move on? At the moment l don’t think my sparkle has gone completely but questions are creeping, in as to what is next?, how do l evolve from this postion?. If by all means you have a further job prospect lined up that rekindles that spark jump ship and grab it by both hands and sprinkle your sparkle everywhere.
Is there external circumstances why you are loosing your sparkle? Is there a person or people in your life that talk your passion down? Can you openly speak your mind about your passion? If you have people in your life who think you passion and sparkle are reidiclous and you feel you can’t openly talk about it, you need to distance yourself from those toxic people, surround yourself with like minded people who encourage you to go after your dream, emerse yourself in your passion and thrive.
Untill next time
